UP Cebu BA Communication alumni Emanuel Paler and Colie Arellano will showcase their thesis film Jocoy, Jocoy, Jack en Poy at the upcoming Binisaya International Film Festival, where it has been officially selected under the Binisaya Shorts category.
The film tells the story of Jocoy, a councilor candidate striving to carry on his late father’s political legacy. After a day of campaigning, Jocoy unwinds with his barkada over a night of tagay. What begins as lighthearted drinking and playful games soon takes a darker turn, leading to an unexpected revelation that lays bare Jocoy’s true self.
Grounded in practice-based research, the film explores the multimodality of moving images through Deleuze’s concept of the time-image and Burn and Parker’s kineikonic mode. By engaging with these frameworks, the filmmakers examine how cinematic form can uncover intersections of politics, identity, and performance.
Jocoy, Jocoy, Jack en Poy will be screened on the Exit YouTube Page from August 18 to 21, 2025. An Audience Choice Award will also be given to the most-viewed entry. Paler and Arellano invite the community to support their work by watching and sharing the film.
