.The University of the Philippines Cebu Center for Environmental Informatics (UP Cebu CENVI) actively participated in the Cebu Climate Action Summit 2026: Understanding Choices Series (CCAS 2026). With the aim of addressing Cebu’s growing flood risks and climate challenges, the summit brought together government leaders, experts, private sector stakeholders, and civil society organizations on April 22–23, 2026 at the Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu.
Anchored on the theme “Rethinking Growth: Climate-Smart Governance for a Flood-Resilient Cebu,” the summit aimed to develop a science-based Flood Resilience Roadmap and actionable strategies for climate-smart governance.
UP Cebu CENVI contributed to the summit’s technical and policy discussions, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing flood risks. The center actively engaged in the Science and Risk, Governance and Policy, Urban Planning and Design, and Social and Equity clusters, helping identify key gaps and advance actionable solutions for collaborative implementation. Its participation highlighted the center’s critical role of providing technical solutions to environmental problems which will in turn support science-based policymaking and sustainable development. Through its cross-cluster engagement, UP Cebu CENVI advanced science-informed strategies to strengthen flood resilience in Cebu.
UP Cebu CENVI also featured a booth highlighting its flagship initiatives, including Smart City Solutions to Traffic and Urban Flooding (SMART TUrF) and FireCheck. Adding to the showcase, members of Team 2Ls from the Department of Computer Science—champions of the Philippine Junior Data Science Challenge (PJDSC) 2025—presented their project, “drAin: Where AI Meets the Flow.” This AI-driven system is designed to predict and optimize urban drainage systems.
UP Cebu CENVI’s participation in CCAS 2026 reaffirms its role as a driver of science-based, technology-enabled disaster risk reduction and its commitment to building a more resilient and climate-adaptive Cebu.
Beyond the summit, UP Cebu CENVI looks forward to supporting the development and implementation of Cebu’s flood resilience roadmap through continued research collaboration, technical assistance, and pilot deployments of its solutions in partner local government units.
