The University of the Philippines Cebu warmly welcomed its freshies through Unang Hunat, Unang Kiat (UHUK), an annual week-long event held for incoming and returning students at the start of the academic year, from August 10 to 14, 2026.

More than a welcoming event, UHUK provides students an opportunity to become familiar with the university community, discover its various student organizations, and begin finding their place in campus life. Through the week-long activities, students are encouraged to participate, connect with others, and see themselves as active members of the UP Cebu community.

The celebration concluded on August 14 with a culminating night held in front of the Administration Building. The program brought together various student institutions, publications, academic-based federations, political and mass organizations, and interest-based organizations. Performances and presentations throughout the evening showcased the diverse communities and activities that UP Cebu offers beyond the classroom.

Adding to the festivities was a raffle draw organized by the student council, giving students the chance to win various prizes. The culminating night also featured the recognition of winners for the Best Booth and Best Parade, held on the first day of the event. The awards highlighted the creativity and enthusiasm of the participating organizations and students.

The event concluded with the much-anticipated UP cheer for the freshies, followed by the singing of UP Naming Mahal, before students gathered for a salo-salo.

With UHUK marking the beginning of their journey in UP Cebu, the freshies can look forward to more opportunities to engage with the university community in the coming weeks, including activities such as the Iskolaro, Cookout, and external inter-school events.
